2012 Global Corruption Perceptions Index Released, China Falls from 75th to 80th

On December 5, Transparency International released its 2012 Global Corruption Perceptions Index, which measures perceived levels of public sector corruption in 176 countries. According to this year’s index, out of these 176 countries, China was ranked 80th (first place reflecting the lowest levels of public sector corruption), falling five places from 75th in 2011. Denmark, Finland and New Zealand tied for first place, with Sweden and Singapore ranking fourth and fifth respectively. On the flip side of the spectrum, North Korea, Somalia and Afghanistan all tied for last place. Other items of interest: New Zealand has now topped the list for seven straight years; American ranked 19th, Japan ranked 17th and Russia ranked 133rd.
