Ancient Culture Street & Tianhou Palace (Guwenhua Jie & Tianhou Gong) [古文化街]

Large View

Description

Located along the banks of the Haihe River, Guwenhua Jie is easily recognized for its beautiful colorful Qing Dynasty arch that marks its entrance. Travelers can appreciate the traditional Qing Dynasty style buildings with their colorful walls, and shouting vendors. Cocooned amongst all the vendors is the beautiful Tianhuo Temple (Tianhou Gong). It is here that fishermen would come to worship Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea. In 1984 the temple was converted into a museum dedicated to the display of Tianjin's cultural and historical relics. Exhibited there are some exemplary pieces of Tianjin pottery and woodblocks from the nearby village of Yangliuqing.
