The Chinese government has issued recommendations to those planning to travel around the country during the May Day holidays, including quarantining on return. In a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that anyone returning from a trip should isolate for 14 days to avoid infecting others. People suffering from coronavirus symptoms should also seek medical advice immediately and tell doctors about their travel history.

The Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security reports that China’s strong economic recovery and success in controlling the virus domestically has led to high demand for travel over the upcoming holiday, with more than 250 million people expected to make a trip.
While acknowledging that domestically transmitted cases are extremely rare and most places in China are now designated as low risk, the CDC is advising caution and common sense. Travelers should avoid crowded and badly ventilated places, wear masks on public transport and monitor their own health closely. The group has also urged citizens to take the Covid-19 vaccine before travel and not delay a second dose because of the holidays.
