What to see?

Besides the beautiful architecture and one or two high end stores, the biggest attraction is the Shanghai Gallery of Art, which provides fabulous views of the river from its vaulted, 1,000 sqm exhibition centre. Host to a rotating parade of well-known artists, the Shanghai Gallery of Art provides a welcome dose of culture.

Where to eat?

The choices are pretty much limitless. To impress your friends and sample some haute French cuisine, try Jean Georges or Mr and Mrs Bund. New Heights has one of the best restaurant views of the Bund, especially from their expansive wooden deck. They serve everything from Asian to steaks to seafood – and don’t forget to try their fabulous desserts! Where to drink?

There is definitely not a shortage of swanky bars to visit on the Bund. After you’re done chowing down at Laris, saunter over to Vault Bar, to which it’s attached - go on Thursday to sample their famous Martini night! Try VUE Bar; at top the Hyatt hotel for a relaxing night in their outdoor hot tub and great views. The panoramic view from M on the Bund makes this a popular hotspot for those looking to make an impression.

Where to party?

For a night of glamour, you must go to the Glamour Bar for a taste of some of Shanghai’s old world class. Bar Rouge is one of the most famous venues in town and can’t be missed – their terrace has repeatedly been voted one of the best views by Shanghai publications.

Where to sleep?

You could cheat, and get a view back over to the Bund by staying at any one of the five star hotels on the other side of the river. Look to either the Shanghai Grand Hyatt in the Jin Mao Tower, the Park Hyatt Shanghai, atop the new Shanghai World Financial Centre, or the Pudong Shangri-la.

But, by staying even closer to the Bund, you can actually enjoy just as spectacular a view of it. The Hyatt on the Bund is a short walk north of the Bund proper, but its location, on a sweeping bend in the river, affords some of the finest vistas in the entire city.
