Qi Jiguang was a Ming Dynasty
general, who is remembered as a national hero for his part in the fight against Japanese pirates who plagued the east coast of China during his lifetime. He also made significant reinforcements to the Great Wall of China. A memorial to the general and his soldiers, 3000 of whom were from Yiwu, has been built in Chi'an town, which rests in a valley near Yiwu. The museum is still under construction but when finished it will feature an exhibition of Ming Dynasty weaponry and an area where military reenactments can be staged.
