Located in the Mawei District of Fuzhou, the China Modern Navy Museum was officially opened to the public in 1998 and its five-storey façade is a representation of two warships floating away on a huge wave. The museum is split into a number of exhibition areas describing naval development during various times in China's history, split into periods including the Qing Dynasty, the end of the Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China, defense during the Sino-Japanese War and the navy during the Chinese People's Liberation War. The museum displays the birth, development, decline and reestablishment of the modern Chinese Navy through exhibitions, photographs and models.
