Introduction: 
Applications are invited for a teaching post at Arts Institute KEASS (KEASS), to deliver academic programmes at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SFAI) campus in Chongqing, China.
 
The programmes are a combination of broad-based preparation courses and joint/articulation programmes between SFAI and UK HEIs. The curriculum covers a range of skills and subjects, and applications are welcomed from individuals with experience in Teaching English as a Second Language, English for Academic Purposes- or closely related discipline.
 
Main Role: 
To support and enable international students to develop their English language and academic skills, including relevant processes and practices, necessary to engage with academic study in the fields of Art and Design. To contribute to the successful delivery of KEASS courses, at foundation, undergraduate and pre-masters level, designed to prepare students for application and progression to further study in the UK (or other English -speaking countries); to work with Chinese academic colleagues at SFAI and KEASS’s UK partner institutions, To work within a small team, including EAP and studio teachers, to further develop the programme to ensure it best prepares students for onward progression in all aspects of language, studio and theoretical perspectives. To contribute to developing materials, facilitating learning and assessments as well as co-organizing and facilitating course specific events.
 
Principal Roles and Responsibilities:
Academic
To deliver specialist language and study skills tuition in a manner that is relevant to the learning and teaching methodologies of a studio-based Art & Design academic practice.
To provide specialist language teaching and input through the delivery of lectures, group seminars and workshops, as well as individual tutorials,
To plan, preaper, and implement structured group and individual programmes of language and study skills tuition,
To undertake team-teaching with either subject specialists or studio teachers, where appropriate,
To assess student language development and give concise formative and summative feedback,
To undertake assessment of student work, contributing to internal and external examination boards where appropriate,
To contribute to developing appropriate strategies and resources for supporting International Students and promoting them within the programme,
To assist in (re)designing, delivering and evaluating the syllabus with a view to adapting the programme to students’ needs and/ or refining the course,
To maintain a continued engagement in areas of pedagogy, practice, and research within the field.
Operational
To undertake administrative duties commensurate with the role,
To maintain specific records and arrangements to meet UKVI requirements for an international student cohort, including attendance and participation records and assessment-related paperwork,
To contribute to extracurricular events such as gallery visits, as directed by the course co-ordinator,
To undertake duties associated with the pastoral care of students, including reporting to support services where appropriate,
To take responsibility for own health and safety and that of your colleagues and students in accordance with the relevant Institutional policies and procedures where directed.
Strategic
To contribute to development of the core programme for students in line with external research, professional development and quality assurance/ enhancement frameworks,
To contribute to maximising opportunities for cross-cultural activity and growth, and the development of new interdisciplinary areas of study.
To actively promote and encourage equal opportunities and widening participation,
To contribute to the development of an innovative approach to work-related learning, which builds mature, confident, enterprising graduates able to apply real world experience in shaping their careers.
 
Person Specifications:
Experience and Knowledge
A qualified and experienced teacher of English as a Second Language, preferably possessing a First Degree, Masters in TESOL and equivalents such as \Cambridge ESOL DELTA, Trinity College Diploma in TESOL, or Masters in Applied Linguistics,
Preferably educated to degree level (or eqivalent) within a relevant subject area (Art, Design, Art History, Cultural studies, etc),
At least two years of experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes in Higher Education
Preferably experienced in teaching in the context of Art and Design education at degree level,
Experience and understanding of working effectively within a student-centred framework,
Experience of delivering language tuition and enabling peer learning in a group setting,
Ability to respond to a range of needs and requirements based on language skills and diverse cultural backgrounds,
Experience in with working with students on an individual basis to give effective, structured, and goal-oriented tutorials,
Experience in writing effective and engaging language materials and assessments, including materials for online blended delivery,
Understanding of the ways in which language supports learning, teaching, and assessment within the academic structures of Art and Design,
Understanding of current debates, trends and issues relating to international students and their requirements, particularly in the context of Art and Design education,
Experience of building and maintaining effective working and collaborative relationships,
Skills and Attributes
Strong team-work and collaborative skills,
Ability to work individually, under pressure, with little supervision and ‘without script’,
Ability to think critically, creatively and ‘outside the box’ (and on your feet),
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Experience and skills using learning technologies, both synchronous and asynchronous,
Enthusiastic and creative with a proactive approach to developing a supportive learning environment for International students,
Willing to collaborate and seek feedback to ensure that the curriculum is appropriate and relevant,
Willing to engage with elements of Art and Design and, in particular, the value of Art and Design Education at degree level,
Appreciation of diversity and a well-developed awareness of the particular vulnerabilities of International students,
Personal drive and desire to develop new areas of educational activity and related research,
Adaptability and multi-disciplinary outlook to work with staff and students in different departments across the school,
Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural diversity and needs,
