Teach Fundamentals of Mathematics to MBA students in English
Job requirement:
1.Native English speakers, American, British, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand, or Chinese with good English foundation;
2.Master's degree or above.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the main topics in Algebra and provides an introduction to single-variable Differential Calculus and Linear Algebra. Each topic is discussed first with respect to mathematical procedure and theory and then in terms of its applications in business and economics (through practical exercises end examples). Mathematical proofs are minimized except when needed. Designed as such, it provides the prerequisites for subsequent quantitative courses.
COURSE AIMS
The purpose of this course is to help students review and acquire basic mathematical concepts, definitions and symbols that represent variables used in the real world while developing analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for critical thinking in real-life applications. Hence, this course equips students with the mathematical skills required to better understand, appreciate and perform mathematical analysis applied to real-life business and economics problems.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, students are expected to
Develop a good understanding of basic concepts of algebra;
Form and solve equations and inequalities, as well as systems of equations using different methods;
Identify different types of functions, know their characteristics, graphs and some of their applications in business and economics;
Understand and compute limits, identify and draw asymptotes;
Compute the derivative of a function, interpret its meaning and use it in real life applications;
Conduct a full analysis of a function and sketch its curve;
Apply operations on matrices and use matrix reduction to solve a linear system; find the inverse of a matrix.
TEACHING METHODS
Weekly sessions will be divided between lectures (2 hours) and seminars (1 hour). Lectures will offer an overview of the key concepts alongside with basic application exercises. Seminar sessions will be dedicated to problem solving. Students are expected to prepare for the course by reading the corresponding chapters in the course textbook after each session, solving the assigned exercises and, where applicable, consulting online resources.
A Virtual Learning Environment platform, Blackboard, will be used to upload lecture notes and other essential course-related information.

Our curriculum:
1)English Language Arts
It is similar to the English classes in the US/UK whose goal is to improve student’s academic reading and academic writing abilities by teaching them important skills such as critical thinking, how to make an inference and evidence collection.
2)Intensive Reading and Writing Class
It guides students to read, understand, and analyze the reading both during classroom discussion and in written homework. Classes are divided by student reading level: beginning, intermediate and advanced. Each class is 16 weeks long, unless otherwise stated. Class size ranges around 8 students. Students will gain reading speed, an increased vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and a deeper knowledge of text (both literature and language) analysis. The goal of the class is above all to promote critical thinking, analytic skills, and understanding of the English Language writing traditions through in-class discussion and written work.
