Russian Media: Russians See China as Ally and Important Economic Partner

Russian media reported yesterday that the Russian people see Belarus, China, and Kazakhstan as the friendliest countries towards Russia. 68% of Russians view Belarus as an ally, 56% see China as an ally and 50% see Kazakhstan as an ally.

Russian media collected 1,500 surveys taken across the country, and found that a lower percentage of Russians see the following countries as allies: India (26%), Cuba (15%), Brazil (10%), Venezuela (9%), Japan (8%), Germany (8%), Iran (7%), Israel (7%), France (6%), and Italy (4%).

Only 1% of Russians believe that Turkey, Ukraine, and the United States are Russia’s allies. When the same survey was given one year ago, 20% of respondents saw Turkey as an ally. Now, Russians believe Turkey, the United States, and Ukraine to be the least friendly countries towards Russia. 71% view Ukraine as unfriendly, 69% view the United States as unfriendly, and 63% view Turkey as unfriendly.

49% of respondents believe that China is an important partner for Russia in economic cooperation, while 35% believe it is Kazakhstan is important. Other countries seen as important economically were Germany (22%), India (16%), Japan (14%), the United States (9%), Ukraine (5%), Italy (5%), and Brazil (5%).  Respondents could chose more than one country they believe to be economically important.

Last year, 18% of respondents believe that maintaining economic relations with Turkey was important. This year, only 4% of Russians held that view.

32% of respondents believe that China is Russia’s most economic important partner followed by Belarus (16%), and the United States (8%).

All China will do is exploit Russia for its energy reserves. Russia will feel great having China as a customer and not replying on Europe. Classic geopolitics.
