China plans to relocate all of its people living in poverty by 2020. There are currently 70 million people living in poverty in China, equivalent to the population of a medium-sized country. China’s poor are concentrated in relatively underdeveloped central and western regions including Guizhou, Yunnan, Henan, Guangxi, Hunan, and Sichuan.
The Chinese government has decided to adopt an innovative mechanism to lift its people out of poverty. In the next five years, the government will invest 600 billion Yuan to relocate 10 million people out of impoverished areas. By 2020, 70 million will be relocated.

Now?..Perhaps because they fear or spite humanitarian interests pressuring them to offer these empty residences to Syrian refugees?

Ya, Ramdom guy is right on. So many of the villagers are giant f'm hillbilly morons. They don't understand that rain doesn't wash away there spit, and shit in the stairwells. They yell on their cell phones, because the people they are talking to are far away. It would be a good plan if they gave them manner classes. Helped them overcome, their ancestral traditions, of shitting, spitting, and yelling where ever they are. Really, what will happen is that more sophisticated people will move to the bigger towns. Myself, I'm tired of the hillbilly madness of the small 8 million city I'm in.

Brazil tried this and ended up with massive urban slums. How will these people support themselves and adjust to urban life?

I am afraid that relocating uneducated people straight from dirt muds in the middle of nowhere to brand new complex apartments in cities will make cities even more unlivable, these people do not have the proper manners and education to live in cities, they are the ones who spit, take dumps in the streets, stare at foreigners for long minutes, shout instead of talking and destroy beautiful gardens to plant vegetables. Chinese cities were apparently very nice before the first waves of migrants.

My husband and I aren't in Beijing all the time. His parents and sister ( parasite) and her daughter live there too. We went up to renew my visa, etc. The place was so filthy . I really didn't want to touch anything especially the upstairs bathroom . Finally I told them that in any other country they'd get their place taken away because it's too dirty . Finally I said we could rent them a local place and rent ours out to foreigners of they can't clean . Finally they understood . Plus taught them not to push and not talk so loudly . I'm surprised my husband turned out so well .

It's happening where I live. A thousand tall accommodation buildings have been built in the last two years and the plan is to use them to house the people from all the outlying villages. The Gobi landscape will never be the same again.
