Anhui farmer Zhang Changxin’s loving attempt to keep his chickens warm backfired in a huge way on March 14 in an accident that left Zhang with over 3,500 dead chickens after a large fire engulfed his coops. At 19:35 in the evening, Zhang and his wife, who are from Zhaishan Village near Chaohu City, were casually picking peanuts outside when they smelled something burning coming from afar. Afar rushing to the chicken coops, Zhang was shocked to see a fire burning from inside the coops which after 20 minutes completely obliterated the entire immediate area.

Zhang stated that in order to keep his chickens warm during the cold months, he often used a couple of iron stoves inside the pens. The losses were said to have cost Zhang over 10,000 RMB, with over 1,000 eggs and 50 kg of rice all being burnt to a crisp. Despite the obvious losses, at least Zhang can look on the bright side with his new lifelong supply of roast chickens.
