38 Dead in Tragic Henan Nursing Home Fire

38 residents were killed and six were injured yesterday in fire in a nursing home for senior citizens in Pingdingshan, Henan. 44 residents were rescued from the fire.

The fire began in the evening of May 25 and burned for more than one hour before being extinguished. At least 10 apartment were caught in the blaze.

A large number of ambulances were present at the scene as rescue workers searched for victims in the charred remains.

The residence building, Kangle Yuan, is a private nursing home and geriatric rehabilitation center. The nursing home has been in business for 10 years. Locals said that the nursing home has more than 160 elderly residents.
