Teach in China with an American High School Diploma Program
The International Academic Alliance (IAA) seeks English Language Arts, Social Studies and Mathematics background instructors to teach an American high school program conducted in Chinese high schools. This teaching position within an American high school diploma program provides Instructors with opportunities to diversify their teaching portfolios with online course management experience, teach rigorous high school curricula, and gain professional development.
Location: Xi’an, China within an international high school.
Job Description:
Instructors teach courses within IAA’s American High School Honors Program, a collaboration between IAA and an American online high school diploma program delivered in a China international high school. Instructors can teach from among the following American high school subjects:
English Language Arts:
 Academic English Foundations
 English and Literature Grades 9-12
Social Studies:
 Economics
 US History, World History, or American Government
 Mathematics
 Sciences
Test Preparation: TOEFL and SAT
About the International Academic Alliance’s High School Program:
The IAA American High School Honors Program prepares students to pursue a dual China and American high school diploma through an innovative blend of Chinese and American course work. Strong emphasis is placed on developing academic English skills and the core competencies critical to success in English-based, higher education.
Responsibilities:
• Teachers instruct up to 20 hours per week and spend up to an additional 20 hours per week on lesson planning, conducting online course lecture support, student academic labs and student mentoring.
• Work closely with the Program’s Center Director and online course faculty on: Effective teaching of curricula; course delivery; managing or resolving classroom and student issues; and program development and evaluation.
• Participate in ongoing professional development with American teaching faculty, including: teacher training; professional mentorship with American high school faculty; course evaluation; and program assessment.
• Provide support for students having difficulty with their coursework and work with students and Center Director to identify and solve potential problems. Coach students on academic goal setting skills development.
Compensation:
- $2,000 – $2,500 monthly salary
- Round-trip airfare per contract term and medical insurance provided.
- Accommodations: Well-appointed private 1-bedroom apartments close to program site for teachers’ personal use provided
- Visa sponsorship and assistance with all visa procedures
- Employment Contract Term: Teachers must be at their China teaching placement site by late August 2015. Contract runs from September 1, 2015 – July 2016.
Candidate Qualifications:
Applicants must be willing to relocate to various major cities throughout China by late August 2015, with their teaching assignment extending through July 2016 or 2017.
Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree with subject specialization, or an advanced degree in a closely related field.
