A survey on religion in China for the year 2015 showed that clergy in China make monthly wages far below that of local citizens.
From the second half of 2013 to the first half of 2015, questionnaires were administered to recipients across 4,383 religious sites. It was discovered that clergy in five major religions (Taoism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, and Islam) all made an average of 500 Yuan per month.
Buddhist clerics, who are often speculated as being rich, had monthly wages of only 397 Yuan. The data may help to overturn the belief that they are well-off.
The survey was co-conducted by Renmin University’s philosophy department and the university's data center.

If you're a member of the clergy because you want to get rich, then you're doing it wrong (either you picked the wrong job for getting wealth, or you're managing to get wealthy, in which case, you're probably not adhering to the ethics of your religion).
