A Daqing man tried to trick police into giving him a ride to work one early morning with a fake story about a friend in the hospital in need.
Mr. Zhang works at a restaurant near Daqing’s Longnan Hospital but lives across town. He had to be at work before 4:00 am every day. On December 4, he woke up early and stood in the cold shivering for half an hour waiting for a taxi.
Late for work, with no cabs in sight, Zhang thought the police might help him get to work. However, he couldn’t just call the police for no reason. He came up with the idea to lie to the police about a friend in Longnan Hospital who needed help.
Zhang called the police and told them he had to get to the hospital quickly to see his injured friend but could not find a taxi. He said that his friend had no family, and that he needed to go help.
Police arrived to help out Zhang and drove him to Longnan Hospital. Then they offered to escort him to go see his friend, but Zhang could not say where his friend was or what his name was. In the face of police questioning, Zhang had to tell the truth: he had lied to the police to get a free ride.
“I can give you 30 Yuan to make it go away,” Zhang said to the police. The police were shocked and refused the money. Police informed Zhang that bribing police is illegal. Zhang realized his mistake and said he would not do it again in the future.
